Neural Plasticity Underlying Training Induced Recovery After Damage to the Visual Cortex

Description
Damage to primary visual cortex will cause cortical blindness, a condition where patients no longer have conscious visual perception in the parts of the visual field associated with the damage. Training using simple visual tasks can promote functional recovery following damage. However, the changes in the brain which allow for the recovery to occur remain unknown. This project will investigate the physiological changes which underlie recovery. The results will contribute to the design of new rehabilitation programs for patients, focused on improving everyday function.
